Letters

Journal Notes    Stories     Poems

Letters written to family members and lovers to aid understanding either of myself or a given situation.

Being a Parent
A letter written to my oldest son, Ryan, at a time when he was angry with both his stepfather and grandmother for not living up to his expectations.  I share with him the observation that as children, whether young or old, we have a deep-seated belief that our parents should be perfect.

Dear Daddy
"I love you, please don't die", are words written to my father in November, 1982.  He died in January of 1983.  Dad left the family, including me, with many unresolved issues.  However, when I think about him today it is with sadness.  He was so alone and so afraid.

In Memory of Mary Essex        Grandma
The first of these two letters is what I wrote to Mother the day she died.  The second was written by Ryan.  Both letters pay tribute to a wonderful, wonderful human being.  I count myself so fortunate that she was my mother.

Seeds Growing
Taking words from a letter written by Christopher, my youngest son, thoughts are shared with a friend on how as humans we too are seeds and what it takes to make the seeds flourish.

Healing Love
Part of a letter written, but never given to Bill. It is being included with the other bits and pieces because, with all its warts, the love we shared allowed me to heal and love with a whole heart again after almost 20 years.

Birthday Salute
Although written to Bill in 1983, the thoughts presented can be applied to anyone.  Birthdays have always been important to me as being my very own special day to reflect on the year gone by and the hopes for the year to come.
