At the height of its popularity ten million people tuned into the the TV series “Touched by an Angel”. Week after week the message on this show was “God Loves You”. Just three words and yet they contain a wealth of information.
God – one name out of a multitude given to an entity we cannot see or touch. The word is used as an oath and more often as a curse. When asked, the majority of people will answer that yes, they believe in God. But what do they believe? What do those ten million people who watched “Touched by an Angel” believe?
Obviously some of them believe that God is real and personal. But what about the others? Did they watch the show week after week wanting to believe, hoping that the message is real, hoping deep inside that they might be ‘touched by an angel', so they too could ‘know’ for sure of God’s existence.
And yet, the truth is simple. Each person can make a choice to ‘see’ and believe. We can look at the world around us and see God’s handiwork everywhere. He is in the roar of the surf crashing against rocks carved by time. He is in the flight of the eagle riding invisible currents in the sky. He is in the wind that moves everything in its force and fury. But mostly, if we care to look, God can be seen shining forth from the faces of those humans who have chosen love and joy as a way to live respective of adversity.
